Textured Painting Art Picnic in Central Park

An open-air painting ritual under the trees

Two hours of textured painting outdoors in Central Park — easels under the trees, palette knives, charcuterie and lemonade, and an aesthetic picnic setup laid out for you. No experience required.

$100 per person for public picnics, private packages for groups up to 20.

What Is an Art Picnic?

An art picnic is a painting class held outdoors on a styled picnic setup. You sit on blankets and cushions under the trees in Central Park, with an easel in front of you and a lemonade beside you, and spend two hours building a textured abstract painting with palette knives while an artist guides each step.

It's the same textured painting technique we teach in our Brooklyn studio, moved outside: thick paste, palette knives, no reference image to copy. The difference is the setting — birdsong instead of background music, sunlight instead of studio lamps, and a charcuterie board in the middle of the blanket.

Everything is set up before you arrive and packed away after. Your finished piece is wrapped individually so you can carry it home on the subway without smudging it.

Not just a workshop

A textured painting art picnic — an open-air afternoon where you slow down, paint outdoors, and rediscover creativity through sunlight, texture, and good company.

In the heart of New York, where skyscrapers meet sky and every park bench holds a story, there's a place where time slows down. Our Textured Painting Art Picnic invites you to step outside the rush — to breathe, to create, and to reconnect with beauty in its simplest form.

Set against the greenery of Central Park, this experience blends art and nature. You'll sit under the trees with a palette knife in one hand and a lemonade in the other, guided by an artist who keeps the pace unhurried. The sound of birds replaces background noise, and the city's hum becomes a distant rhythm.

Here, creativity feels effortless. You'll learn how to build texture and layer color — all while surrounded by laughter, conversation, and the gentle warmth of sunlight.

Whether you join with friends, a partner, or simply yourself, the experience feels like a collective breath of joy. Charcuterie boards, soft blankets, and the scent of fresh paint create an atmosphere that's part atelier, part dream.

For two hours, Central Park becomes your studio. And when it ends, you'll take home more than a painting — you'll take home the quiet of an afternoon spent outside.
