Bento Cake Decorating Class in NYC

Because joy can fit inside a tiny cake box

Decorate your own Korean-style bento cake  also called a lunchbox cake  in our Brooklyn studio at Industry City. Pre-baked layers, all the frosting and tools, and a pastry artist guiding every step. No baking and no experience required. $90 per person. Public classes and private bookings for groups of 8 to 24.

What Is a Bento Cake Decorating Class?

A bento cake is a miniature cake - small enough to fit in your palm and its own little takeout box. The style started in South Korea, where these "lunchbox cakes" became a way to celebrate someone with something personal and handmade rather than a full-sized cake. In our class, you decorate one of your own.

This is a decorating class, not a baking class. Your cake layers come pre-baked, so you spend your two hours on the fun part: stacking, filling, smoothing buttercream, piping, and adding the small details that make a bento cake feel like a gift. A pastry artist walks you through each technique. You leave with a finished cake in its box, ready to give or eat.

We run the class in Industry City, Brooklyn — a ten-minute walk from the 36th Street subway station on the D, N, and R lines. Most guests have never piped frosting before, and that's exactly who this is designed for.

Not just a workshop

A bento cake decorating experience — a sweet, sensory afternoon where you slow down, play with color and frosting, and rediscover the joy of creating something beautiful with your hands.

In the heart of New York, where every day feels like a race, there's a place where life tastes a little sweeter. Our Bento Cake Decorating Workshop invites you to pause — to play with color, frosting, and texture, and to rediscover the quiet joy of creating something beautiful with your hands.

Guided by our pastry artists, you'll learn how to layer, smooth, and decorate your own miniature cake — the kind that fits in your palm yet feels like a celebration. There's no competition, no pressure — just soft music, laughter, and the gentle rhythm of buttercream.

Here, baking becomes more than dessert. It's connection, creativity, and care — a reminder that joy often lives in the smallest details: a swirl of pastel icing, a shared smile, the scent of vanilla in the air.

Whether you come with friends, colleagues, or simply yourself, the atmosphere feels like stepping inside a cozy café scene. For two hours, deadlines disappear, notifications fade, and what remains is sweetness, laughter, and a tiny cake that tells your story.
